Bicycle Film Festival Returns to DC

The Bicycle Film Festival returns to DC this weekend (www.bicyclefilmfestival.com/washington-dc/). It features movies touching all corners of bike geekitude including an encore performance of “The Cyclocross Meeting.” If you missed it in December, BFF is giving you another shot to see director Brian Vernor’s tale of U.S. ‘crossers training, racing and being big in Japan. Crazy concept, I know. Go check out the trailer and we will meet back here in two minutes and twenty-four seconds.

Now that you’ve watched that, watch this. Here’s the new trailer for the tenth edition of the festival. It’s sparkly.

So here’s the deal, the BFF hoopla starts tonight at 9 pm with a goldsprints kickoff party at Asylum in DC. The movies start Friday night at the Gala Theater, 3333 14th St. NW. Program 1 features The Cyclocross Meeting and starts at 7pm. Program 2 features Bike Shorts and begins at 9 pm. Day two starts Saturday at 3pm with Bicycle Dreams and continues with new films every two hours. Festivities wrap up Saturday night with an after party at Meridian.

If you live in the DC-area and like to see bicycle-related events such as the BFF come to town, you need to go support the cause. Much like pre-registering for a race, buying tickets online makes life easier on the BFF staff. So much so, that BFF DC organizer guy Chris Carraway will forehead kiss all purchasers of online tickets. Just tell him I said so, and get your free smooch.

Chicago Cross Cup Vid And Bike There

There are at least a handful of ‘cross racers in the Mid-Atlantic region with aspirations to ride their bikes to as many MABRA races as possible, next season.

Our friendly Internet overlords at Google make that a little bit easier today with the roll out of “Bike There” on Google Maps. “Bicycling” is now an option on the “Get Directions” tab at maps.google.com. Good stuff.

Along with the Bike There reveal we are also bringing a little grassroots ‘cross video goodness to your computer monitors, today. Heather Jurewicz of Johnny Sprockets put together a great highlight reel from the 2009 Chicago Cyclocross Cup series. The Chi Cross Cup was started in 2004 as a grass roots effort by folks that wanted to race ‘cross in their neighborhood. Yes, that’s all it takes. The series has grown ten races and features hard racing and a party atmosphere. But don’t just take my word for it, check out the film.

C3 is hosting a team party and fundraiser for Athletes Serving Athletes this Saturday, January 30th, 7PM at Fraziers on the Avenue in Baltimore. Seems Like Forever Ago LVG Won The 2009 Charm City CX

C3 promises a great time to get together after the big season and right before all those little ones. It’s also a perfect kick off to the 2010 world cyclocross championships where just hours after the festivities end, Laura Van Gilder and Jeff Bahnson will toe the line in Tabor, Czech Republic and represent C3-Athletes Serving Athletes, Thule/Van Dessel, the Mid-Atlantic Cyclocross series and the entire cyclocross community.

At 7:00 PM there will be live bands food and drink to be had and a small but good silent auction featuring iPods, Dansko Clogs, Massage Gift Certificates, Coaching, Cycling Goods Galore. All proceeds go to Athletes Serving Athletes. www.athletesservingathletes.org.

Cost is $5 for C3 members and $10 for non members. Please pass the word as the entire cycling community is invited.
