VACX Finals: Fear and Loathing in C’Ville

December 12th, 2010 — 7:23pm

The Virginia Cyclocross Series Final went down last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our crack reporting team of Chris and Elliott made the trip down from D.C., to give a little MABRAcross flavor to the proceedings. We spend a bit of time before the race with the boys to get some behind the scenes footage of Sheetz and host housing with a little pre-race banter thrown in for good measure.

The footage is all captured on the helmet-cams, so the quality is more mumblecore than blockbuster, but that’s okay. You all know the drill: cyclocross is punk rock, blah blah blah. In any event, it’s entertaining footage. And the race isn’t half bad either. It was pretty cool having two guys off the front of the race, trading pulls and wearing helmet-cams. That Chris forgot his race bag and is wearing a Route1Velo skinsuit is an added bonus for the home team.

Soundtrack for the video comes from Project X and Death Before Dishonor.

We still have a couple more odds and ends out there to get posted, but the CXHairs.com season is definitely winding down. Great times for sure and we look forward to doing it all again next year.

Thanks for watching.

Killer Bs work the stairs at the Ix factory

Urban Cross at Ix 2009 took place on November 15 in Charlottesville, Virginia. The course takes place on the grounds of an abandoned factory and features a ton of elevation change, good power sections and on this day, unseasonably warm temperatures. The video is from the first ten minutes of the Masters 3/4 race. Pay special attention to the rear-facing camera at about the 45 second mark. The race comes to a standstill as riders start piling up on the muddy off-camber turn. Good lesson in why a decent start is important. You don’t need to win the hole shot, but being near the front is the best way to avoid the bottlenecks.

There was a lot of running on this course. The heavy rains leading up to race day made the normally ridable hills unridable. There was also a staircase and one set of barriers. As you will see, these barriers jumped up and got me on the first lap.

Music this week is by The Burdens. Check them out at www.theburdens.com.

Thanks for watching.
