Preliminary 2016-2017 UCI Cyclocross Calendar Released [PROCEED WITH CAUTION]

Before you even scroll down and start marking your calendars, know this: the calendar below and currently on the UCI website is not final. If anything it is a placeholder that may not have necessarily been meant for public consumption. In other words, it’s not completely correct and likely to change. The calendar vote will happen this weekend and a final calendar will be released after the World Championships. And that final calendar? Even it may change. Nothing is certain in UCI cyclocross land.

That being said, we know this calendar is going to be all over the place starting today so I wanted to get out ahead of the crowd and warn everyone to read it with caution. Classifications and dates still may change.

[UPDATE: The UCI has removed the not-ready-for-prime-time calendar from its site. I probably should just delete this post at this point, but I will leave it here for historical and misinformational purposes.]

Warnings and disclaimers aside, here are a few highlights and errors:

North America, and the United States in particular, have been awarded a second World Cup in Iowa City.
The Montreal event postponed in 2015 does not return to the calendar.
No dates listed for some National Championships, including Dutch, Spanish and French.
Belgian dates most likely will reshuffle a bit. For instance, Valkenburg World Cup and Superprestige Zonhoven currently on same day.
Charm City Cyclocross in Baltimore is a C1, exciting news for us in the Mid-Atlantic.
Providence and Gloucester no longer back to back, confirming the rumors that Holy Week as we know it is no more.
Heck, Providence isn’t even on the schedule … I can almost guarantee you it’s happening and will be added.
Trek CXC Cup and CrossVegas are listed on same date. I can certainly guarantee you that CrossVegas will be on Wednesday and not the weekend. [Update: Confirmed here: http://www.crossvegas.com/25/index.php]
Jingle Cross is listed as a four day event. It will be three days starting on Friday as in year’s past. Saturday will be the World Cup event. [Update: Confirmed here: http://www.jinglecross2.com/index.php/schedule-4/uci-world-cup-of-cyclo-cross]
