The Big Picture: CycleSmart International Cyclocross Day 2 (Elite Men)

Rafael Gagné (Red Truck – Garneu p/b Easton Cycling) dominated day 2 of CycleSmart International, soloing away from the field and holding off his pursuers to take the win. A large group of podium contenders would ride together behind him, making soft attacks to jab at one another all race. After a suspenseful race waiting for big attacks, the final podium places were decided by a blistering final lap and small group sprint. Dylan McNicholas (Polartec) rode a smart race and would out-sprint all in the chase group to claim 2nd, while Cameron Dodge (unattached) would hang onto his wheel for 3rd. The Big Picture: CycleSmart International Cyclocross Day 2 (Elite Women)

After settling for 2nd place a day prior, Emma White (CyclocrossWorld Development Team) struck back on day 2 of CycleSmart International to take the win against a late fading Ellen Noble (JAM Fund/NCC/Vittoria, 2nd). Cassandra Maximenko (Van Dessel Cycles) claimed the 3rd spot on the podium, improving upon her prior day’s 5th place. With contenders the same but new battles to play out on the slightly modified course, the Elite Women closed out the weekend in Northampton in epic fashion. The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 2 (Elite Men)

Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) takes the win in the UCI Elite Men’s race at Day 2 of the KMC Cyclocross Festival. He and teammate Curtis White blazed a ludicrously fast race to escape the field early on, with White settling for 2nd – unable to hang with Hyde’s pace in the closing laps. Further back, a multi-rider battle would take place for the final podium spot, with Jamey Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement) fighting his way to 3rd. The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 1 (UCI Elite Men)

Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus/Aspire Racing) added yet another victory to his impressive palmares today at the KMC Cyclocross Festival in Providence, RI. Taking a win once again over Stephen Hyde (2nd) and Curtis White (3rd) (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld), a question emerges: what can anyone do to outsmart or outride Powers as he continues to dominate the domestic pro-CX calendar? The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 1 (UCI Elite Women)

Under overcast skies and over a course of tacky mud, Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Cyclocross) took the win at day 1 of the KMC Cyclocross Festival. A bobble from Katie Compton (Trek Factory Racing) mid-way through the race would allow Nash to open a gap on the leading group, with no one else able or willing to chase. Compton put in a hard effort to fight her way back and reestablish contact with Nash, but would have to settle for second. Amanda Miller (Boulder Cycle Sport/YogaGlo) rode well from the gun to take 3rd place on the podium. Continue reading “The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 1 (UCI Elite Women)”

The domestic UCI calendar returns once again to Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, MA to kick off New England’s  Verge series. Gloucester is part of New England’s “Holy Week” of cyclocross that kicks off with the Midnight Ride. Weather was comfortable in the mid-60s and sunny. The course was fast, bone-dry, and a real dust bowl. Continue reading “The Big Picture: Gran Prix of Gloucester Day One (Women’s Pro Race)”

Early morning overcast skies broke very quickly, for another gorgeous day of bike racing through the Brittany region of France. You couldn’t forget that we’re in Brittany (Bretagne, in French), because the flag of Brittany is EVERYWHERE. Not familiar with the flag of Brittany? You’ll figure it out pretty quick from the photoset. But right. Bike racing. Continue reading “CXHairs Goes To Le Tour (Part VIII)”
