The Neerpelt & Vorselaar courses twisting through the trees were absolutely wonderful, but I have really been waiting for Ronse. This place is such a beautiful rural setting & the town is lovely too. BPost Bank Trofee races are my favourites & Ronse is special – the organisation, courses, shuttle buses, rider lists, beer tent, entertainment, rider parking & access for the fans – everything for a great day out. The first day of racing at the 2015 Trek CXC Cup saw U.S. National Champion Jeremy Powers (Rapha-Focus) and Wisconsin native Kaitlin Antonneau (Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) win close battles on the updated cyclocross track in Waterloo, WI. The UCI C1 event, which is held on the grounds of Trek’s Global Headquarters, added several new features for 2015. Mid-Atlantic cyclocross has, over the past decade, become synonymous with Druid Hill Park in Baltimore and an early appointment with Charm City Cross and the MAC Series. Rather than its traditional early-September date, which generally offered heat and humidity, the 2015 iteration of Charm City was raced under cooler, and most would say, more pleasant conditions given the new mid-October date. With some 1600 racers tackling the tough course, made soggy and slow by Friday evening thunderstorms, it was sure to be an exciting day of competitive racing. Heading off into the unknown (or small-town Belgium) for a smaller CX meet is always an adventure, although I do get a little worried when I ask a local and they give me the blank stare. It’s been a few weeks since we last took a look at the continental cyclocross scene beyond the traditional hotbeds of Belgium and The Netherlands. Things are beginning to ramp up with the EKZ Cross Tour having held round two this past weekend in Dielsdorf, the Toi Toi Cup in full swing in the Czech Republic, the Coupe de France preparing for it’s opening weekend in Albi this coming Sunday and some other non-series UCI-rated races happening in Switzerland and elsewhere. Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) takes the win in the UCI Elite Men’s race at Day 2 of the KMC Cyclocross Festival. He and teammate Curtis White blazed a ludicrously fast race to escape the field early on, with White settling for 2nd – unable to hang with Hyde’s pace in the closing laps. Further back, a multi-rider battle would take place for the final podium spot, with Jamey Driscoll (Raleigh-Clement) fighting his way to 3rd.
