The Big Picture: KMC Cross Fest

I stood motionless in stagnant summer sweat, one arm supporting part of my weight while holding on to the trunk of a crying Bradford pear tree, my feet aching in dusty boots on the cracked dirt doing the rest of the work to keep me standing. Every 90 seconds I would drag the hundred or so feet of garden hose in small increments, from one withering dusty burlap sack to the next in the attempt to keep cultivated specimens of decorative trees from dispensing their last leaf onto the parched ground, sealing their fate in becoming another addition the mass grave of organic material steaming at the end of the lot. The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 2 (Elite Men)

Stephen Hyde (Cannondale p/b CyclocrossWorld) takes the win in the UCI Elite Men’s race at Day 2 of the KMC Cyclocross Festival. He and teammate Curtis White blazed a ludicrously fast race to escape the field early on, with White settling for 2nd – unable to hang with Hyde’s pace in the closing laps. The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 1 (UCI Elite Women)

Under overcast skies and over a course of tacky mud, Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Cyclocross) took the win at day 1 of the KMC Cyclocross Festival. A bobble from Katie Compton (Trek Factory Racing) mid-way through the race would allow Nash to open a gap on the leading group, with no one else able or willing to chase. Compton put in a hard effort to fight her way back and reestablish contact with Nash, but would have to settle for second. Amanda Miller (Boulder Cycle Sport/YogaGlo) rode well from the gun to take 3rd place on the podium. Continue reading “The Big Picture: Providence Cyclocross Festival Day 1 (UCI Elite Women)”
